ELA

During our year together we will study a variety of book genres, grammar rules, and vocabulary, focusing on themes, motifs, and symbols in literature. Students will also explore what makes a successful reader/writer through work with the three text types: narrative, expository, and argument. In addition to the 7th grade blog, students are part of our class’ Google Classroom online learning platform. This is where they can find information and resources on what we are doing in class and where they will turn in writing assignments.

Check back periodically to see current examples of student work or scroll down to find links for suggestions on independent reading. You can also look below to see what Mr. Des Marais is reading right now!

Our current unit is writing and reading informational texts. Students are reading a variety of sub-genres of informational text and writing informational pieces ranging from “Letters of Proposal,” to op.ed. pieces.  Students have written about their experiences learning outdoors, they have shared informative pieces about fields that they excel in and they have compared and contrasts different modes of technology through the ages. Please ask your son/daughter what their “challenge by choice” assignment was to wrap up the year with informational writing.
