During our year together we will study a variety of book genres, grammar rules, and vocabulary, focusing on themes, motifs, and symbols in literature. Students will also explore what makes a successful reader/writer through work with the three text types: narrative, expository, and argument. In addition to the 7th grade blog, students are part of our class’ Google Classroom online learning platform. This is where they can find information and resources on what we are doing in class and where they will turn in writing assignments.

Check back periodically to see current examples of student work or scroll down to find links for suggestions on independent reading. You can also look below to see what Mr. Des Marais is reading right now!

Our current unit is Literature Circles on the themes of dystopian fiction. Students will be practicing the skills of readers through different roles within the literature circles. Please ask your son/daughter what role they have this week in their literature circle. You might also ask your student questions about his/her book as they begin to tackle the themes expressed in their choice novel.
